Yoga Nidra, often referred to as "yogic sleep," is a deeply relaxing meditation practice that guides you into a state of conscious relaxation. During Yoga Nidra, practitioners lie down in a comfortable position, and follow a guided meditation that takes you through various stages of relaxation, body scanning and breath awareness. The aim is to reach a state between wakefulness and sleep, where the body is deeply relaxed but the mind remains aware.
The benefits of Yoga Nidra are numerous. First and foremost it promotes deep relaxation, which in turn helps reduce stress and anxiety. It has been shown to lower cortisol levels, and enhance the body’s ability to heal itself. Yoga Nidra is often used for improving sleep quality, as it encourages the body and mind to rest deeply, often leading to more restful and rejuvenating sleep. Like other meditation practices it can enhance mental clarity, emotional stability, and overall sense of well-being
Yoga Nidra offers a unique opportunity to rest deeply, rejuvenate, and cultivate a deeper connection with oneself.
Yoga Nidra practice is included at the end of each term, though aspects of Yoga Nidra are often visited in weekly classes.
I will be offering stand alone Yoga Nidra sessions from spring 2025, watch this space.
